NAME: Jess Carroll
CAMPUS: Byron Bay
DISCIPLINE: Bachelor of Film
What do you most enjoy about student life at SAE?
Work placement opportunities, I got to film at Mullum Music Festival, Bluesfest, and Splendour in the Grass through work placement for SAE.
What is Orientation and the first day of SAE like?
It was great to meet all our lecturers and fellow classmates, see all the facilities and set up everything ready for our first day of class.
What artist inspires you?
Have you studied previously?
Yes, Diploma of Photography and Photoimaging.
What do you enjoy most about Film?
It is a very hands-on course, I learn by doing and that’s why I chose to study at SAE. I like that in the first two trimesters you learn about every area of film from cinematography, editing, screenwriting to directing. Then you can really figure out what direction you want to go in the film industry and build up your portfolio in that area while studying.
Can you share the projects you have worked on?
I have worked on a short silent film in Trimester 1, a title sequence and music video in Trimester 2, a TVC in Trimester 3, a documentary in Trimester 4, and a drama in Trimester 5.
My major project for Trimester 6 is what I am most proud of, I feel like everything I have learned over the past two years was put into practice. For my major, I made two music videos and I did cinematography work on other students’ major projects.
